The “Robam” series takes its name from the Khmer word for dance, a central pillar of Cambodian culture. Dietl’s images document the grace, discipline, and expressive power of dancers as they rehearse and embody centuries-old traditions. These photographs, from the early 2000s, were taken during a pivotal era of cultural renewal, at a time when Cambodia’s dance heritage was being revived and celebrated after decades of hardship.
